I’m not entirely sure whether I should be saying that silly season is drawing to a close or if it’s only just starting up!
I guess work wise silly season has begun to draw to a close as companies have slowly all started their little bit of time off but personal life wise its only just starting.
Sheesh was it chaos for a brief period.
I’m the kind of person who is very particular and possibly have some sort of OCD (this has definitely come from being a designer – my fellow creatives will understand!). I mean if one line is 0.0000002mm off, you cannot sleep until it is perfect! Both a blessing and a curse I’d say.
Anyway, as I was saying… very particular. So, when silly season begins, I like to plan out EVERYTHING! How long each job will take, what needs to be done before the holidays, what needs to be done after the holidays, when to send this, when to send that, the whole works.
So, I hit the festive period feeling prepared and ready, but as you would all know, this is never the case!
For some reason, it always seems like when it hits December, people usually get this massive bee in their bonnet and suddenly everything needs to be finished before the holidays – never mind it’s been pending review for 6 weeks.
Oops… a planned, calm and smooth sailing year end was great while it lasted.
I’ll be honest though – I actually kind of enjoy it.
Everything hits a high speed, calls coming and going, emails pilling up and poor design programs having a mild infarction with 7 million files all going at the same time. (Okay a small exaggeration but you get my drift.)
Time flies by all of a sudden and before you know it, the whirlwind dies down and the holidays arrive – becoming even more treasured and ‘deserved’. Not to mention Christmas is right around the corner and that is, of course, the best time of the year!
This year has been something out of a movie – there’s no doubt about that – but I have actually appreciated each and every bit of it. Maybe not at the time, but looking back, I have learnt so much, met some incredible clients, learnt about their industries, helped brands grow and I feel so honoured to have been able to be a part of each ones journey!
So as Shrimp 2020 sort of draws to a close, I am so excited for 2021! To continue current projects and the start of many new ones – all with a fresh outlook, feeling rejuvenated and creatively recharged to tackle the new year.
It’s definitely beginning to feel a lot like Christmas around here, Ballito especially, as all the holidays makers are starting to arrive, all the festive lights are up, and the ‘I’ll start my diet next year’ mindset sets in.
So I would just like to give a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me this year. I have loved working with all of you. May you all have a safe and merry festive season filled with lots of love and laughter!
P.s. Incase anyone was wondering… as a one-man band, an office Christmas party would be interesting, so I’m off to celebrate the year with a fellow one-man band brand and sip on some delicious coffee (tribute to 2020’s drink of choice) and get artsy with some pottery painting! Woohoo!
Check you all in the new year!
Lots of Love,
Haylee
